ABOUT THE BLOG
HiHelloHelena: A blog for storytelling and risk-taking.
THE STORY
Five years ago, I began this blog as part of a creative project that documented my gap year.
When I first went to university, I loved the students and campus, but I felt unfocused—limited by my major and frustrated by an environment of “D is for degree.” I didn’t want to become another student-zombie simply chasing after a job title, so I dropped out.
It was a project to document that year in my life, which resulted in thousands of views on my Youtube channel and this site, HiHelloHelena. When I returned to college, it became a platform for rethinking the academic experience through the lens of a transfer student and tying together what I was learning in the classroom with pop-culture and “real world” life.
I repeatedly transferred and jumped around between schools, studying at over six different colleges and universities. I graduated in 2020 with a double major and double minor from Pomona College. Some of my favorite thought pieces about college on the HiHelloHelena blog are here and here.
I love what I’m working on, so let me know if there is anything you want me to write about. You can get in touch through the contact form here or you can send me a message on Twitter through @hihellohelena. If you want to learn more about me and the work I do now, you can find my portfolio here.
